Chamorrita Collection #277.
Handcrafted by Lucy Quitugua Rhoden. This miniature is inspired by the traditional Chamorro Mestiza. Introduced in the 1800's by the Spanish and later influenced by Filipino styles, the mestiza was daily wear for Chamorritas until after WWII. The dress was made of light weight material with a camisole, blouse and skirt. Now worn mainly for cultural celebrations, the mestiza is a colorful ad enduring part of Guam culture. Using modern materials but inspired by traditional styles, these miniatures are designed and handmade in Guam.
